The Gothic Nursery Rhymes of Lydia Wick

"What possesses you to write such gruesome things?" people often ask me. Who knows. I only know that the devil does not make me do it.

I began with the premise that nothing is more terrifying than human insanity. Ghosts, werewolves, vampires and other mythical monsters pale in comparison to the horror of Norman Bates, the maniac in "Psycho" who dressed in women's clothes and spoke in his own dead mother's voice. Norman is more interesting than a ghost because psychotic people are a potential real-life threat. So are abusive babysitters, incestuous uncles, drug addicts, con artists, and people who steal your credit card numbers.

When I'm not writing poetry about flowers and trees and other beautiful things, which is most of the time, I come here to check in on my alter ego. The Gothic Nursery Rhymes are a parody of Mother Goose - an exercise in morbidity. Still, I hope you enjoy them.
